amber sleeps until you get greedy
Amber and white lasers in Laser Thief change the way back the moment you're holding the loot. How to plan your exit before you grab.

The way in is usually the easy part of Laser Thief. The way back is where you learn.
Two laser colours are responsible for that: amber and white. They behave like mirror images of each other. Once you’ve got that, you plan differently.
the pair
Amber is an alarm laser, according to the studio. At the start it lies dormant in the room, visible only as a faint dashed line. The moment you lift the loot, it redraws itself within 0.6 seconds and from then on it’s lethal. The game announces: “ALARM TRIGGERED – Amber lasers are live”.
White is the guard. On the way in it’s lethal. Once you’re holding the loot, it stutters briefly and fades to a faint “offline” line. The path opens up.
So amber closes routes, white opens them. Both react to the same moment: the grab for the loot.
why it’s lowkey good
These two colours turn a course into a planning job. You can’t just walk the same way back. You have to know where you want to get out before you go in.
The game is fair about it. According to the studio, a route check runs before every level to confirm it’s solvable. Amber only counts as an obstacle on the way back, white only on the way in. So there’s always a way.
And if you get caught, you lose the loot, it jumps back onto its pedestal, and the amber lasers reset. You start the heist again, but not the whole level.
four levels to practise on
3-06 SILENT ALARM
The amber introduction in the Solar Casino world, with one camera. The hint on the pad: “Amber sleeps until you lift the gold.” So on the way in you look at the dashed lines and memorise which gap closes afterwards.
The rule of thumb: keep an eye on the dashed amber line as if it were already on.
3-16 WHITE GLOVE
This is where white comes in, along with a jumpy camera. “White guards the way in - and sleeps once you hold the gold.” The shortest route is blocked on the way in. On the way back it’s open. If you know that, you take the long way in and the short way out.
5-06 AMBER ECHO
In the final world, Prism Citadel, with two cameras. “The way in is not the way out.” Here amber bolts the entrance. The way back has to be somewhere else entirely.
5-18 AMBER LABYRINTH
Three cameras, alarm, cyan and pulse doors, par 55 seconds. “Doors lock behind you. Learn the long way home.” This is the level where the habit from earlier worlds pays off: read the exit first, then grab.
how to plan your exit
- Look before you start. In the level select there’s a 1:10 scale hologram preview, according to the studio, showing every laser in its true colour. There you can see amber and white before you take a single step.
- Check the pad again. Dashed doesn’t mean harmless. Dashed means: still to come.
- Pause at the loot. Grab, then wait a moment for amber to redraw itself. Running while a laser is still forming is the classic mistake.
- Watch the white lines. What was a wall on the way in can be the shortcut on the way back.
- Use the floor path. A band of arrows leads back to the pad if you need it.
the catch
Amber levels take longer if you play carefully. The par times are tight enough that for the third star you’ll eventually have to combine planning and pace.
Also, amber rarely comes alone. In Solar Casino and later, cameras are often sitting right next to it. And cameras punish movement while you’re busy working out where you’re going.
And honestly: the moment amber wakes up feels mean at first. That passes after a few levels.
who it’s for
For people who like thinking a step ahead. If you like puzzles, you’ll like amber. If you’d rather sprint, you’ll be sent back to the pad a few times.
