halloween weekend, then a quiet session
After a horror marathon or a party: how to wind down with MindIsland, what to type into the box, and when the Sleep category is enough.

Halloween weekend. Either three horror films back to back on the sofa, or a party that went on longer than planned. Sometimes both.
Afterwards your head often isn’t where your bed is. A small, unfussy plan for the moment after.
two kinds of wired
After a horror marathon you’re awake in a different way than after a party.
After the films: pulse a bit higher, a few images stuck in your head, every noise in the hallway sounds suspicious. Your body has had two hours of little jolts, even though you know it was only a film.
After the party: loud, busy, lots of conversations, maybe a costume that itches. Your head is still replaying scraps of chat. And sometimes a thought like “did I really just say that”.
Both are normal. Both fade on their own with time. But a short, deliberate transition can make it a bit easier.
basics first
Before an app comes into it:
- Lights on, normal brightness. After horror films it helps to see the room properly once.
- A glass of water. Unspectacular, but rarely wrong after a long evening.
- Out of the costume. Make-up off, comfy clothes on.
- No more clips. Don’t quickly watch the trailer for the sequel.
then the session
MindIsland is a meditation app that writes a new guided session from a sentence you type in. It picks up the theme, frames it a little more gently, then leads into breathing and calm. Every session starts with four seconds in, a short pause, six seconds out.
For this evening:
- Lie down in bed. The guidance adapts to your position, lying down is one of the options.
- Type the sentence. Short and specific beats vague. Ideas below.
- Pick a length. Ten minutes if you’re still properly wired. Five if you’re already half asleep.
- Voice and background. One of the calm voices, plus optional quiet background sound that sits behind the words.
- Put the phone down once it’s running. Screen off, just listen.

what to type into the box
A few examples you can adapt:
- “Watched three horror films, still jumpy and want to sleep”
- “Long Halloween party, head still loud, uni in the morning”
- “After the party unsure whether I said something embarrassing”
- “Alone in the flat after a scary film, every noise is annoying me”
The trick: don’t describe how you want to feel, describe what’s actually going on. The session responds to exactly that.
if you don’t want to type anything
Completely fine. Nobody wants to craft sentences at two in the morning.
Then there are two options. First, the daily meditation, which is freshly there every morning. In the evening it doesn’t always fit the moment, but it’s better than nothing. Second, the library with eight hand-made categories, including Sleep and Breathe. Those hold ready-made sessions you just start.
And if the signal in your room is rubbish: the last ten meditations are saved offline on the device.
the catch
It’s not a sleeping pill. MindIsland is meant for relaxing and reflecting. There’s no sleep tracking, no sleep stories and no promise you’ll drop off straight after.
It costs money after the first session. The first meditation is free, after that you need Premium. According to the App Store (US, as of October 2026), Premium Monthly costs $12.99. For a single Halloween weekend a subscription isn’t worth it. If you already use the app anyway, it fits nicely.
A phone in bed stays a phone in bed. If you start scrolling again after the session, it hasn’t done much.
No substitute for help. If an evening has really gone wrong, you feel unsafe or you’re feeling persistently bad, an app is the wrong place to turn. Call someone you trust, or in urgent cases the Samaritans on 116 123.
who it’s for
For people who like Halloween but don’t want to wake up like a zombie the next day. For horror fans who love watching and still want to sleep. And for anyone whose head carries on talking for a while after a party.
the pumpkins are out. you’re allowed to be too.
