tank avenger is a £9.99 war that happens on your carpet

202 levels, four worlds, a 9cm tank on your floor, £9.99. And the catches come free: internet required, controller only, English only.

A small toy tank sits alone on a soft carpet

Tank Avenger is a top-down tank game. Classic, arcadey, a bit like the old top-down shooters.

The difference: the battlefield is your floor. Your tank is about 9cm long, and you walk around it while it fights.

what you get for £9.99

According to the Meta Horizon Store (en-gb, as of 10 Oct 2026) the game costs £9.99. It came out on 12 September 2026, published by ThreeFlavors LLC. It runs on Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

That buys you quite a lot:

  • 202 levels across four worlds: Town, Desert, Jungle and Ice
  • four modes, fixed per level: Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Tank Hunt (a boss fight against the Juggernaut) and Airdrop Assault
  • seven weapons, though each level assigns you one of them
  • nine tank types as enemies, plus gunships circling your room below head height
  • a garage with upgrades you buy with coins you’ve earned
  • a Map Workshop where you draw your own maps

The store lists no in-app ads and no early access. The current version is 0.4.0, so the game is still being looked after.

why it’s lowkey good

The best bit happens before the first shot. You draw out the area the fighting happens on: 25cm tiles on your real floor. The game builds a little fortress, outposts and a whole miniature world on top. In Town there’s a clock tower and a windmill next to your bed. In Ice it snows across the whole room.

Furniture stays out of it. Nothing gets built on the sofa or the table — the fighting only happens on the floor. A smaller room just means tighter firefights.

Then come the moments that only work in mixed reality:

  • Attack drones launch from a station on your floor. Grenades do nothing. You have to swing the controller through the cable holding the drone.
  • A nuclear warhead descends on your tank. The battle freezes, you grab it with your hand and throw it off the field. Miss, and the level’s over.

That sounds like a gimmick. It is, a bit. But it’s a good gimmick, because it pulls you into the game physically without asking you to run around.

Then there’s the ricochet. Grenades from most weapons bounce off walls. The enemies plan their own bank shots. That turns a simple shooter into a small geometry puzzle.

the catch

Honest, and all at once:

  • Internet required. The store says “Internet connection required”. Offline play isn’t a thing.
  • Controller only. No hand tracking. The nuke throw and the cable cut run through the touch controllers too.
  • English only. Menus and voice lines are in English. Not an issue for most people, maybe an issue for younger siblings.
  • No multiplayer. No co-op, no PvP, no leaderboards. Your own maps stay local on your headset.
  • You need floor. Minimum is 1.5 m² of lit space plus a clear 0.6 × 0.6 m patch. The studio recommends around 2 × 2 m.
  • You don’t pick the weapon. Each level gives you one. If you want your favourite cannon everywhere, that’ll get annoying.

If your floor is currently covered in washing: there’s a VR mode with a fixed 3.5 × 3.5 m field in a virtual world. Drones and the nuke are off the table there, though.

safety, briefly

The game shows five rules every time you start: no pets in the room, nothing on the floor, keep clear of furniture, no one else in the play area, stay on the lit tiles. That’s not overkill. You’re looking down and walking backwards — a stray charging cable quickly becomes a problem. Take breaks if you start feeling dizzy.

The store rates the game “Comfortable for most”. You move yourself around the diorama, the camera isn’t moved for you.

who it’s for

For people with a Quest and a bit of free floor who want a short arcade thing for in between. For anyone who used to like top-down tank games. For completionists, because 606 stars is a lot of stars.

Not for you if you want to play offline, play with your hands only, or want something for two people. For that last one, Holotanks is the fairer pick — it has local multiplayer in the same room.

in short

A lot of game for £9.99, honest limitations, and a living room floor that suddenly feels like a battlefield.

small tank, big carpet, no notes.
